The laser has the two wavelengths so the practitioner can choose the correct one for the skin type, the laser is safe to use on fair and dark skin types. Hair grows at different rates on different parts of the body, and all hair has different cycles. The laser targets the melanin in the hair follicle, it is most effective in the early Anagen Phase (growth stage). This is the reason why a course of laser hair removal treatments are needed as only some of the hairs treated are going to be in the Anagen Phase and be damaged by the laser. Depending on the area treated, around 4-6 weeks is then left before the next treatment to catch more hairs in the next Anagen Phase. The Nd YAG, 1064nm wavelength laser is suitable for darker skin types and is safe to use on Asian or Afro-Caribbean skin. The laser penetrates deeper than the Alexandrite up to 6mm, again damaging the bulge, bulb and vascular supply. Asian skin types can find areas darken after hair removal treatments with lasers or after waxing, the Nd YAG wavelength used at Renatus Clinic is gentle and does not darken the skin. With visible results after just one laser hair removal treatment it is no wonder clients are back for more.
