3D-HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound)

Non-Surgical skin lifting has become one of the most sought after treatments and High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) is the latest to excel in this area in just one single session.

It targets specific areas on the face and neck, individually; Brow Lifting, Jowl Line Lifting and Periorbital Wrinkle Reduction for overall skin tightening and rejuvenation. The highly focused acoustic energy creates thermal coagulation zones at 3 different selected depths causing a wound healing response which results in the formation of new collagen.

The tissue at these target points is heated to 65 degrees centigrade which create spaced ‘wounds’ or cones of heat and cellular friction. The wound healing response caused by the trauma results in the formation of new collagen and SMAS tightening. The SMAS layer (Superficial muscular aponeurotic system) is the layer which the muscles of the face and the soft tissue attach.

During cosmetic surgery a portion of this SMAS is removed and then reattached to give a longer lasting result than the traditional skin tightening facelift. The SMAS is one the sections of the skin treated with HIFU to give a longer lasting tightening effect as a result of the non-surgical treatment. Improvements can be seen from eight weeks post treatment and will continue up to six months post treatment.

HIFU Body

HIFU Body delivers a 24 line matrix of focussed energy at a depth of 1.3cm and 7mm. The controlled thermal effect results in the destruction of targeted fat as well as contraction of collagen in the treatment area. Great for small areas of hard stubborn fat. The high frequency of the ultrasound waves result in the rapid heating of the focal zone at 1.3cm and 7mm under the skin leaving the surface unaffected. This energy increases in temperature as it gets deeper within the skin due to the energy of the HIFU causing cellular friction. Exposing the fat cells to this high temperature causes rapid cell death, necrosis.

FAQs about 3D-HIFU

Before and after images

What to expect from the Treatment?

Results will develop over the course of 2-3 months with some clients experiencing continued improvement for up to 6 months. Whilst the procedure will not be as drastic as surgical intervention it is an inviting alternative for those who are not ready for surgery.

What is unique about the 3D-HIFU treatment?

3D-HIFU can specifically target the deep foundation below the skin similar to that of cosmetic surgery without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin.

Can 3D-HIFU replace a facelift?

Although 3D-HIFU is Uplifting it is not a facelift. The procedure is not as drastic as surgical intervention but it is an alternative for those who are not ready for surgery. There is also the positive of no downtime to the procedure.

Is 3D-HIFU safe?

Thousands of treatments have been performed worldwide using this type of technology without any significant adverse effects. Ultrasound energy has a proven track record with use in the field of medicine for more than 50 years.

Who is a good candidate for 3D-HIFU?

A good candidate is someone with skin that has relaxed to the point of looking less firm and tired. Typically, those in their 30’s and older who have mild to moderate skin laxity are good candidates. If you are unsure our practitioners will advise in the consultation.

How long does the treatment take?

A full face & Neck treatment takes approximately 90 minutes, whilst a partial face treatment can take around 45-60 minutes. There is no downtime post treatment.

What problem areas does 3D-HIFU target?

It can be used on the brow area, which can reduce excess skin on the eye lids, opening the eyes. It is also effective on loose skin on the neck area and can bring definition to the face and jaw.

How long until I see results?

Clients may witness some initial effect but the ultimate lifting and firming will take place over 2-3 months, as collagen is renewed and replaced with new stronger collagen. As this collagen building process continues, improvements can appear up to 6 months following a treatment.

How long do the 3D-HIFU results last?

The firming benefits achieved following the treatment should last for over 1 year, but the skin continues to age. Yearly touch up treatments are recommended to combat the ageing process.

How many treatments will I need?

The treatment protocol would be to have one 3D-HIFU Focused Ultrasound treatment, but the best results are achieved if the collagen has already been stimulated in the area. In your personal consultation this will be discussed. An 8 weekly Radio Frequency course, 4-6 months after the initial treatment can further enhance the effect. For the majority of clients this is sufficient however a further Ultrasound (HIFU) treatment may be required dependant on the extent of the skin laxity and the body’s response to treatment.

Is there any downtime with the 3D-HIFU treatment?

There is no downtime, you are able to return to normal activities right away and there is no special aftercare that you need to take, although sun protection is always advised to protect from the signs of ageing.

Will I feel the ultrasound during the treatment?

Clients have reported that there can be some discomfort while the energy is being applied but it is short lived and a good sign that the collagen restructuring process has been started.

Are there any side effects?

There may be a slight redness for about an hour following the procedure, and a low percentage of clients may have slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to touch, but these are mild and temporary in nature.
